Mighty Earth is seeking motivated community members to work on an exciting campaign to protect Midwest landscapes and promote a more sustainable future. For years, politicians, BigAg lobbyists, and even environmentalists have promoted biofuels as a sustainable energy source. Unfortunately, research has shown that biofuels are not a greener energy option. In fact, they are adding to greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere, destroying wildlife habitats, and polluting our drinking water. With the next presidential campaign rapidly approaching, Iowa -- as the first state to vote for presidential nominees -- has the opportunity to shape the narrative toward a greener future for the entire Midwest by moving away from biofuels and instead promoting real climate solutions, such as wind energy, solar power, and land conservation.
As volunteers, members of the team will help to build grassroots power by working with community members and local organizations as well as participating in environmental advocacy work. Join us in addressing one of the most relevant and threatening issues of our time: sustainable, alternative energy.
Over the next several months, we will...
-- organize community and educational events
-- work with the media
-- meet with political leaders and elected officials
-- collect petition signatures and speak with community members
-- build a broad coalition of local groups to join us in pushing for policies that work for the climate, for wildlife, and for everyday farmers rather than just the interests of big agriculture.
