Our Mission:
Mighty Earth is a global campaign organization that works to protect tropical forests, oceans, and the climate. We aspire to be the most effective environmental organization in the world.
About Us:
Our campaigns and our team have played a leading role in persuading the world’s largest food and agriculture companies to adopt policies to eliminate deforestation and human rights abuse from their supply chains, and driven adoption of multi-billion dollar shifts to clean energy. Our Chairman, former Congressman Henry Waxman, is responsible for some of the most important environmental legislation of the last 50 years, notably the 1990 re-authorization of the Clean Air Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
Since April 2017, Mighty Earth has been a proud member of the High Carbon Stock Approach Steering Group.We are committed to the HCS approach and will work to support the application of the HCS methodology around the world.
Whether we’re rallying for change internationally or locally, Mighty Earth is building a movement to protect our environment. Mighty is a fiscally sponsored project of the Center for International Policy, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
What We Do
Mighty Earth is working to make sure U.S. biofuel policy is truly green. As federal mandates drive a steep rise in production of corn ethanol and soy biodiesel, it becomes more and more clear that increased crop production for these fuels destroys native habitats, pollutes drinking water, and worsens the climate crisis. The good news is that we CAN build a true clean energy economy here in Iowa if we support real climate solutions like wind energy, and solar power, and farmers who conserve land.
This spring, with organizers in Iowa City, Des Moines, and Davenport, we’ll talk with thousands of Iowans across the state, hold educational forums, garner media attention, and meet with political leaders to show elected officials that Iowans want them to support real climate solutions, not the harmful production of food-based biofuels. We're looking to build our team of organizers here in Iowa City.
Our volunteers and interns will gather petitions, plan events, meet with political leaders, and communicate with media. Whether you're looking to develop your organizing and campaigning skills, or simply to learn more about the issue and how you can make a difference, we hope you'll join our effort in fighting for real climate solutions!
