Who We Are
Who We Are
Imagine starting a movement in the bustling streets of East London in 1865. That’s exactly what William and Catherine Booth did! They didn’t just talk about helping people—they rolled up their sleeves and got to work, bringing hope and kindness to those who needed it most.
Their groundbreaking efforts quickly spread across the globe. By the 1880s, The Salvation Army was making waves in America, Canada, Australia, Asia, Africa, and India. And in 1886, The Salvation Army Heartland Division, which includes Iowa City, was born!
Fast forward to today, and The Salvation Army is a global force for good, serving in over 120 countries and speaking the gospel in 160 languages. Since 1988, we’ve been right here in Johnson County, continuing the Booths' legacy with the same passion and drive.
We’re all about making a difference, one act of kindness at a time. Join us and be a part of a movement that’s been changing lives for over 150 years!
