The Jingle Bell Run will take place at Terry Trueblood Rec Area.  The morning will kick off with activities for all ages and will include visits with Santa, a kids fun run, and a 5K.  We will need a wide variety of volunteer help including setting up, tearing down, help serving water along the route, putting signs/banners up, and more!  It will be a fun-filled event and all volunteers will receive a holiday themed event long sleeve t-shirt! 

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Arthritis Foundation in providing tools and resources for the approx. 60M American's who have been diagnosed with America's #1 cause of disability.

ReStore volunteers help with all the daily tasks of running the store. Tasks will include unloading donations, assisting with small projects, cleaning, re-merchandising products, and organizing the different departments within the store.  We also need volunteers willing to ride in our truck along with staff to pick up donated items within the Iowa City and Coralville areas. If you enjoy small projects and interacting with others while helping a great cause, the ReStore is the perfect opportunity for you!

Volunteers will help construction staff through the entire home building process including framing, painting, trim work, cabinet installation, energy efficiency upgrades, and more. No prior skills or knowledge are necessary! We train you and give you all the tools you need to accomplish the tasks for each shift. Learn new construction skills, make new memories, meet new friends, and help give back to the community!

Age Restrictions: All volunteers must be at least 16 years old. All volunteers under 18 must have a liability waiver filled out and signed by a parent or legal guardian. Minor volunteers also have slight restrictions regarding the jobs they can help with. If you are under 18, it is best to contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Table to Table is in need of volunteers to help with maintaining our mission of connecting abundance with need in Johnson County.  We are in need of volunteers to help with our food rescue routes on Saturday mornings.  Saturday routes begin at 9am and are typically 1.5 - 2 hours long (routes might occassionaly be longer than 2 hours).  We could use regular weekly volunteers or subs that can help out once a month or so.

Support adult learners in our English or Citizenship classes! You’ll assist the lead instructor by guiding participants through activities, holding conversations to build confidence, and providing one-on-one support. This role helps create a positive, engaging learning environment for all participants.
(Citizenship classes are held Mondays, and Fridays from 6–8 PM and English classes are held Tuesdays from 6–8 PM - both at our Pheasant Ridge Neighborhood Center.)

Share your passion for teaching by guiding English language learners through lessons and activities. As a Lead English Class Volunteer, you’ll plan and lead the class, create a welcoming space, and help participants of all levels build confidence and improve their communication skills. (Classes are held Tuesdays from 6–8 PM at the Pheasant Ridge Neighborhood Center.)

Help us feed Johnson County by collecting and delivering surplus food! We are looking for Food Rescue Volunteers who pick up wholesome food and and deliver it to organizations that feed the hungry, homeless and at-risk populations. As a Table to Table volunteer, you get to be the face of food rescue, the face of food security, and the hands and heart that collect wholesome food for our neighbors in Johnson County! Food Rescue Volunteer Routes usually last 2-3 hours.

Teams from different community groups organize most of our meals, and there are also slots for ad hoc volunteers from 10:30-1:30 or 11:30-1:30. Open Day (ad hoc) volunteers prepare, serve, and clean up after the meal when no pre-formed volunteer team is designated. Extra help with serving and cleaning is needed both on Open Days and on some days with pre-formed volunteer teams.

Help us pack orders of local produce for our online market. Volunteers will pack bags for distribution on Thursdays. This opportunity requires close toed shoes and a lot of moving. An enjoyable and easy way to get to know others in the community who are interested in learning about local food systems!

Food safety training is required before being eligible for a volunteer shift. Please get in touch with Field to Family to arrange for the training. Training takes about 30 minutes and can be held before your first shift.

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman coordinates a volunteer ombudsman program, and we are actively seeking volunteers throughout the state of Iowa!  After completing initial certification training, a volunteer ombudsman in our program will make regular visits to an assigned long-term care facility to help serve as a voice for residents, talking with them about their rights, empowering them, and providing advocacy.

Our volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of 3 hours per month in their assigned facility, complete monthly reports, work with long-term care ombudsman staff at the local and state levels, and complete annual continuing education to remain certified. 

Visits to facilities are generally unannounced and can be made at any time, any day generally between the hours of 8am-8pm. For a volunteer who may wish to make an impact but not wish/be able to make visits to facilities, there are more administrative volunteer opportunities available on an individualized basis.

We provide daily activities that stimulate residents mind, body, and soul. We are committed to helping our residents continue to lead a positive and rewarding life by helping them maintain their independence for as long as possible. Some of our residents live with dementia; your support can help them cope with the disorientation they are feeling. A key part of this role will be to provide reassurance and company to residents. We are looking for servers (just like at a restaurant) to help us take orders and offer a true dining experience to our guests who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity!

We are currently looking for a few new servers to help us out over the summer. This can be an every week or every other week opportunity.

This is a great way to learn more about homelessness and hunger in our community and to meet people you may not get to meet otherwise!

The Tuesday afternoon shift involves helping carry groceries up the stairs (very glamorous but only takes five minutes as a team effort), prepping any food necessary for the special, setting up the dining hall, and assisting with other kitchen tasks to help us get ready for our Wednesday morning service. This job is easy-going and social!

After the café stops serving in the morning, we need help doing dishes! If you'd like to support the Cafe, but don't like getting up too early - this job is for you! Come and have breakfast and then help wash up. An hour is all that is required. What works for you, works for the Cafe: 8-9am; 8:30-9:30am; 8-10am etc.

This job is a really easy way to give back, requires little social interaction (if you don't want), and can happen every week or every other week!

The Compeer Program matches adults who are living with mental illness with community volunteers to create intentional friendships with the goal of reducing isolation and loneliness.

You will meet with your friend on a regular basis at mutually convenient times to share activities you both enjoy, such as movies, sports, going for walks in good weather, shopping or coffee and a chat, or many of the free activities available in the Iowa City/Johnson County area.

You and your new friend will spend about an hour together once a week (or 2 hours every two weeks).Training, ongoing education and support are provided by the Compeer staff.

Compeer volunteers are rewarded by the knowledge that they are making a positive difference in someone’s life! Both people gain a new friend with whom to enjoy and explore different aspects of life, learn from, and grow with.

Provide occasional transportation for Compeer participants to and from social engagement events.  Must have own vehicle.

We are especially interested in board members with experience in (non-profit) management and an interest in helping us develop and build the organizational structures and processes that will sustain the program for the next 20 years.

We are a working farm and therefore break things.  Looking for a welder to be on-call during the farm season for an occasional project. 

Farm season is busy, help us keep are small equipment running and in good condition. Oil changes, carb issues, gas lines in tillers, trimmers, and small walk-behind tractors.

During the growing season (May-October), join the Iowa Valley RC&D Farm staff in the field on a Monday and Friday from 9-Noon (weather permitting) to help tend fields at Iowa Valley RC&D Grow: Johnson County Farm. Volunteers will help cultivate, tend, harvest, and pack vegetables grown on the farm and send them on their way to local hunger-relief agencies.

Caring for Iowans in their final stages of life is a difficult task, but it is also meaningful beyond words. Care Initiatives Hospice volunteers undergo truly life-changing experiences when they help a patient and their family through a deeply personal and difficult time. We could not provide the important care that we do without the dedication and support of our compassionate volunteers. We have short-term and long-term opportunities available and are able to work around your schedule. Friendly visiting may include holding a hand, reading to patients, listening to a story, listening to music, playing games, or just sitting with a patient. We serve patients in facilities and in their own homes. We follow CDC guidelines and make sure our volunteers are aware of any positive COVID-19 cases.

Are you interested in a meaningful volunteer opportunity, where you can support the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House? Our weekly volunteers are essential to our mission. We rely on our volunteers to help keep the Ronald McDonald House a clean, warm, and welcoming place for our families.

Volunteer duties include cleaning, laundry, errands, preparing guest rooms, sorting donations, driving the shuttle van to/from the hospital (optional), front desk support (additional training required), and special events. Calling all cooks!   Our Casserole Club is a fun opportunity to support the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House by preparing casseroles to freeze and serve at a later date.  Groups are responsible for buying groceries for the casserole of their choosing, preparing the casserole, and cleaning up after the cooking.    Feel free to share a special family recipe or create something new!

We generally ask that you make enough for 65 people.  (3-4 9" x 11" pans is usually about right).   We'll provide all utensils, pots & pans, and the aluminum pans with lids for freezing.

Care Initiatives Hospice is looking for someone who would like to support our hospice patients through clerical work. Clerical duties include filling paperwork, making admission packets, running errands, making deliveries, maintaining office records. Our office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Care Initiatives Hospice is a service of one of the largest health care networks in the state of Iowa. Care Initiatives Hospice is committed to providing a high quality of life to patients and their families as life's final months and processes unfold.

We are in the very early stages of planning a Jingle Bell Run 5K that will be held in Iowa City in November 2025!  We are looking for volunteers to help by serving as committee chairs.  These chair-people will be helping coordinate/oversee categories including:  Entertainment chair (potential band/musician for post-race entertainment, carolers for along the race route, Santa for pictures, etc.), volunteer chair (help recruit volunteers for planning process and race day, assist with coordinating day-of volunteer tasks), In-Kind Donation Chair (reach out to local businesses to inquire about donations for event), and Participant Recruitment/Engagement Chair (help post about the event on website and by placing signage around Iowa City, connect with U of I and other local universities to encourage student participation), & more! This will be a fun-filled, holiday themed event for all ages!

Proficiency in Spanish is required. Because of the sensitive nature of medical appointments, strong fluency and a robust knowledge of medical terminology is a must. Previous experience interpreting in a medical setting a plus.

Join our active volunteer team as a Retail Assistant and help us create an attractive, welcoming shop for our customers.  Crowded Closet's boutique style and organization make it a stop for every local treasure hunter.  Volunteers keep the sales floor tidy and presentable and assist customers with questions.

The International Women's Club of Iowa City provides friendship, education, and support for women from many countries, including the USA.  One offering of the club is the teaching of English on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during a 10 week fall semester and a 10 week spring semester.  Classes are held in Iowa City in person.  The English Program Manager could use assistants to coordinate the English program as of this fall.   The coordination role you choose can be based on your talents and interests.  All of the following skills would be valued:  marketing of our club offerings, welcoming and orienting new teachers and students, planning and managing registration of students, management of our class scheduling and teacher resources,  answering inquiries about our programs, explaining the IWC offerings to sister agencies, preparing student forms and lists, and purchasing materials for the classrooms.  

The International Women's Club offers English classroom instruction to women from around the world both spring and fall semesters.   We need new female teachers for fall semester 2025 which begins in early September and ends in late November.  The classes are small (6-15 adult women) and many instructional resources are offered as well as support from experienced fellow teachers.  The hours are 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We are looking for women who have training and experience in English and/or ELL teaching.  It is possible to be a teacher assistant before teaching independently.  It is also possible to lead conversation groups if our class hours do not work for you.  You are welcomed to join our club now so you can get acquainted with other teachers and students at our fun 'English in the Park' events this summer.  Please contact us soon if you have interest.

Our fleet of delivery vehicles ensures that wholesome food gets delivered to recipient organizations. We rely on volunteers to clean out the delivery vehicles after each route and prepare them for driving the next day.

Assist units in volunteer recruitment to reflect community demographics.

Community Inclusion Club (CIC) is a non-profit that was created to provide/ facilitate socially inclusive opportunities for adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) living in and around the Iowa City community. We do this by hosting events once a month at various locations where people with and without ID meet, mingle and get to know one another. Ideally, this will result in people forming friendships, and in turn those friends will meet and communicate with one another outside of our scheduled event times. We realize that people with ID often lack opportunities to interact with their non-disabled peers in the community, and this club was founded to change all that.

This is a team madeup of adults with and without intellectual disabilities (ID). We practice at Alexander Elemntary School on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 and our first competition will be on Februrary 11th. We need a ratio of three people with ID (athletes) to two people without ID (partners) and are short on partners. The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food deliveries to anyone in Coralville or Tiffin who needs it. Volunteer drivers will pick up pre-packaged groceries, up to 5 per route and deliver them around Coralville and Tiffin for a no-contact, front door delivery.  Routes take no longer than an hour to complete.  Deliveries can be done at any moment in time between Tuesday and Saturday from 9:30 - 7 PM.
