Volunteer: SSI/SSDI AdvocateOverview Assist consumers in navigating the Social Security System more effectively by assisting with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) applications and/or appeals.
Duties Assist consumers in completing physical/phone or online applications for SSI/SSDI benefits. As needed, assist the consumer in obtaining requested medical and/or mental health records, scheduling and keeping SSI/SSDI appointments, as well as following through with any steps involved in the journey to SSI/SSDI eligibility. As needed, assist consumers in submitting appeal(s) if they are denied SSI/SSDI benefits. As appropriate, refer consumers to legal counsel once routine appeals have been exhausted With the assistance of the Access 2 Independence staff: Gather relevant intake information (e.g. demographics, disability attestations, releases of information, etc.) for each consumer Document all contact/meetings with consumers in CIL Suite Upload relevant applications/documents into CIL Suite (e.g. SSI initial applications, Social Security Determination letters, Medical records, Release of Information's). Meet face-to-face, virtually, and/or over the phone with consumers As needed, schedule and work with a third-party translation service to meet and coordinate services with consumersAgency: Access 2 Independence Of The Eastern Iowa Corridor, Inc.
