Who We Are

Aging Services is a non-profit agency established in 1969 to identify and meet the needs of older adults. The agency was started by a group of volunteers. From there, Aging Services has grown to a paid staff of over 30 with over 1100 volunteers. The mission remains to enhance the lives of older adults by providing services and resources to help them remain independent.

Aging Services provides a continuum of services to over 5,000 older adults annually in order to help older adults remain in their homes throughout Linn, Benton, Johnson and Jones counties.  Our services include, but are not limited to:

*Case Management: Social Workers provide and coordinate services which match a client's needs with available community resources. On-going education and support are offered through this program.

*Adult Day Health: Cedar Rapids Milestones, Milestones in Marion, and Pathways in Iowa City are cost-effective solutions to out-of-home placement providing adult day services to health-challenged individuals who may require support, supervision, and structure to remain as independent as possible. Volunteers may help with activities and programs, lunch service, office tasks, phone reception, etc.

*Witwer Healthy Aging: Programming for older adults throughout our community who might want to take classes (creative writing, painting, computer technology, etc.), socialize, or play games. Volunteers may assist with activities and programs, teaching or assisting in classes, office tasks, etc.

*Chore Home Repair and Services: Both paid contractors and volunteers provide small home repairs, maintenance, wheelchair ramp construction, home safety checks, lawn mowing, and snow removal services for older adults who cannot otherwise maintain their independence in their own homes.

*Transportation Program: Volunteers drive clients to medical appointments, grocery stores and some other types of errands. This allows seniors who can no longer drive themselves to continue to live independently.

*Friendly Visitor Program: matches volunteers to clients with similar interests with the goal of reducing the client's social isolation and expanding their social lives. Friendly visitors visit their client once a week to chat, share interests and activities, etc.

*Education/Information and Referral: Aging Services staff, volunteers, and board members make an average of 75 community presentations each year related to the services available through Aging Services.

What We Do

Aging Services is a nonprofit agency providing services for older adults living our community. Our goal is to help seniors to "age in place" in their own homes. Volunteers are key to accomplish this goal as they provide a variety of services to our clients.
